The Bush Lodge, Uganda

Get up close to hippos and water buffalos on a boat tour in Kazinga Channel.

During our trip to Uganda in September 2017, we had the opportunity to stay at one of Nature Lodges in Queen Elizabeth NP, The Bush Lodge. The Bush Lodge is one of the 8 properties that Nature Lodges have in their portfolio. We had a 3-night stay here and it was a fabulous place to base yourself for your touring around the park. The accommodation called bandas, are a tented camp with furniture, front verandah and beautiful outdoor shower. They only cater for a small number of guests, and the bandas are nicely spaced so you have privacy. I highly recommend their staff, as they truly went out of their way to assist. It is not luxurious but ideal for your African experience.

This camp is set on the shores of Kazinga Channel in between Lake George and Lake Edward. It is a unique setting surrounded by national park. You can watch and hear hippos from your verandah and they do wander through the camp, so you need to take care at night walking back to your room. The Bush Lodge is an authentic African experience and very affordable. The rates are inclusive of all meals, which were excellent. For the truly African bush experience you will not be disappointed with The Bush Lodge.

A boat tour in Kazinga Channel enables you to get up close to hippos and water buffalos and see elephants on the shoreline, so would recommend this during your stay.

We had our own 4wd and did our own safari drives throughout the park. There is an interesting range of animals in the park and it is like all of Africa you drive around and explore. If you prefer to be on an escorted tour, game drives can be included and any Nature Lodges can be included on your private itinerary. After our really enjoyable experience at The Bush Lodge, I would not hesitate to stay at any of their other properties.
