Today travel Penjikent through the picturesque scenery of Varzob Valley and Anzob pass-tunnel to Lake Iskander Kul (Alexander the Great Lake) in the heart of the Fan Mountains. The history of the city is known to be 5500 years and was one of the easternmost settlements of the ancient Sogdiana Empire. Afternoon enjoy the city tour and visit the Penjikent excavation sites, the Museum of Archaeology and the Rudaki Museum in the centre of the town to see collections of artefacts from the Bronze Age to the
Sogdian era.

Each country visited was unique. The excursion to Alexander the Great Lake in the Fann Mountains, Tajikistan was a highlight. Loved the ancient cities of Samarkand & Bukhara in Uzbekistan.
